How to Motivate your Dental Team to Increase Production

If you ask most dentists what they wish they could improve in their practice, most would agree they would want to increase their production. Adding revenue offers all sorts of positive outcomes in a dental office: more competitive salaries, better equipment /materials, updates to office decor, and most importantly less stress on the dental owner. You can’t do it alone. You need a motivated and well-experienced team to help you achieve those production goals. Some simple tips to motivate your staff are detailed below. 


1. Set reasonable goals


Discuss with your team what your goals are for each month or quarter. Start off small and be specific about what goals you are looking to meet. Perhaps you are looking to treat more teeth whitening cases or plan more dental implant cases. Be clear in your instructions and be reasonable in what you are trying to achieve. Even if you are hoping to have 90% of appointments slots confirmed and booked, it will show you have specific goals to improve your practice.

3. Act as a leader


A good leader can dictate tasks, but can also complete them on his/her own. Show your team you are a leader by delegating appropriate tasks and being clear about your team’s responsibilities. Offer professional continuing education so your team can learn, act, and advance. A good leader is an excellent communicator and can create an office culture that fosters motivation. A dental owner should always hold some type of team meeting - whether it be daily, weekly, or monthly, to communicate with your staff and discuss any concerns you may have. This way it eliminates long-term problems and updates all on the progress the office is making.
